Edinburgh Castle

E: My favorite thing at Edinburgh castle was the dungeon and seeing the Scottish crown jewels. The jewels were really pretty and colorful. We saw the stone of destiny, which we learned about from our Scottish history show.  A long time ago people sat on it when they became king of Scotland. We also saw Queen Margaret’s chapel. It was really, really small and built in the 1100s sometime. We heard how at the Edinburgh Castly Mary Queen of Scots gave birth to James the VI, who became an English king.

S: I liked the cannons. There is one modern gun called the one o’clock gun that fires everyday at one o’clock. The Scots fire it to tell the ships what time it is. They don’t fire it at noon because it would waste gunpowder to fire it 12 times when they could fire it one time at one o’clock. We learned that the Scots are known for being thrifty which is why they want to save money on gunpowder.

A: In Edinburgh castle, I liked the giant cannon battery. We saw the stone of destiny which was used In Scottish coronations a super long time ago. It looked like a regular block of stone. One time when the Scots took the castle back from the English they did it by climbing up a rock wall and surprising the English.
